About Us

Surcando la Historia Inc. is dedicated to serving as an educational resource for the community by rescuing, promoting, preserving, and disseminating the history and culture of our hometown, Lajas, Puerto Rico, the Cardinal City. Our mission is to outline strategies and engage in activities aimed at gathering, organizing, and safeguarding information, documents, and artifacts related to our local history.

Surcando la Historia Inc. is authorized to exclusively pursue educational purposes, as outlined in Section 1101.01 of the Puerto Rico Internal Revenue Code and Section 501(c)(3) of the Federal Internal Revenue Code. Our goal is to foster the promotion of education, the rescue and preservation of historical heritage, support for libraries, and the enhancement and development of both individual and community capacities.

• Educational Outreach: Through educational programs, workshops, and community events, we aim to raise awareness about the significance of local history and heritage. We are committed to working with schools, libraries, and cultural institutions to foster a greater appreciation of our cultural roots.
• Community Engagement: We actively involve the community in our activities, such as local history tours and exhibitions, encouraging people to engage with the past and present of Lajas.
